These events are slated in the coming weeks at Moraine State Park and MocConnells Mill State Park:

Industrial History and Geology of Hell’s Hollow will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10 in Hell’s Hollow parking lot at McConnell Mill State Park.

The forum will address the origins of the scenic hollow’s name, what it looked like in the 1800s, and the exploration of its unique geology during a hike to the waterfall and back.

The Hell’s Hollow parking lot is at 1436 Shaffer Road.

A Salamander Safari will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11. Those attending should meet at the Hell’s Hollow parking lot, 1436 Shaffer Road.

The park naturalist will lead an exploration of Hell Run Creek for salamanders and other critters that live along the creek. Those planning to attend should dress for the weather, bring water and wear sturdy shoes.

Magical Monarchs will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, at pavilion 7 at the McDanel’s Launch area in Moraine State Park.

The park naturalist will discuss facts about the life cycle of the striking insect, as well as ways to attract them. Monarch butterflies will be on hand for observation.

The 19th century gristmill, the centerpiece of McConnell Mill State Park, is open from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays trough Sundays until Labor Day weekend. Admission is free.

Interpretive tours of the historic mill given by staff or volunteer docents are scheduled at 1 and 2 p.m. daily, or by request.

After Labor Day, the mill will be open the same hours, but Thursdays through Sundays through October.

Parking to visit the mill is available at the Kildoo picnic area, and participants must walk down the stone steps to the mill.

Limited parking for those with disabilities is available beside the mill.
