Charles Dittman Jr.

Charles L. “Chuck” Dittman Jr., “The Harmonica Man,” 85, of Stonehouse Road, Emlenton, Richland Township, Clarion County, passed away at 2:10 p.m. Saturday while surrounded by his family at home.

Charles was born Dec. 25, 1929, in Richland Township, Clarion County. He was the son of Charles L. Sr. and Leona Stein Dittman.

He worked for many years as a coal miner and a timberman. Chuck was a member of the United Mineworkers of America.

He was well known for playing the harmonica. Charles enjoyed hunting and woodworking, especially building picnic tables. He was a Christian.

Mr. Dittman was married on July 2, 1949, in Franklin, to the former Betty Lou DeCrapio Anderson. She preceded him in death on Sept. 12, 1990.

Surviving are four children, Wally Dittman and his wife, Diana, of Blacksville, W.Va., Roberta Tennant and her husband, Larry, Terry Dittman and his wife, Lois, all of Core, W.Va., and Charlene Holbert and her husband, Dave, of Mt. Morris, Pa.

Also surviving are his longtime companion and caregiver, Rhonda Bell, and her daughter, Tiffany, of Emlenton; 15 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Dittman and his wife, Patty, of Enon Valley and Dick Dittman of Butler; four sisters, June Robinson of Franklin, Mag Johnston of East Brady, Dee Rufner Bell of Little Rock, Ark., and Pat Dittman of Butler; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents and wife, Chuck was preceded in death by his son, Rick Dittman, who died Nov. 3, 1992; his brother, Bob Dittman; his sister, Betty “Bets” Johnson; and three grandsons, Todd, Chad and Ben Dittman.

DITTMAN — Friends of Charles L. “Chuck” Dittman Jr., who died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Hile Funeral Home, 802 Grove St., Saint Petersburg.A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Randy Evans, a VNA hospice chaplain, officiating.
