Butler grad Allen sets more recordsERIE — Butler graduate and Penn State Behrend track and field standout Paige Allen recently broke the school's 100-meter hurdle record and her own school marks in the 100 and 200 meters.She competed in a meet at Allegheny College Friday and ran the 100 in 11.92 seconds and 200 in 24.76. Both times qualify her for the national meet in two weeks in Iowa.

Mercyhurst among 7 teams in regionalMercyhurst University — featuring Butler graduate Colin McKee as its No. 1 starting pitcher — is among five PSAC teams to be selected for the NCAA Baseball Atlantic Regional Thursday through May 23 in West Lawn, Pa.Millersville, Seton Hill, West Chester and East Stroudsburg are also in the tournament, along with Chowan from the CIAA and Shepherd from the MEC.

Russia admitting to doping problemMOSCOW — Russia has a “problem” with doping and is “very sorry” that its cheating athletes were not caught sooner, the country’s sports minister said.Russia, a track and field powerhouse, was suspended by the IAAF in November following a WADA panel report that found state-sponsored cheating.“Serious mistakes have been made by the federation management, along with athletes and coaches who have broken anti-doping rules and neglected the principle of fair play,” said Vitaly Mutko, writing in British newspaper The Sunday Times. “Let us be clear. Failed drug test postpones title boutMOSCOW — Heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder’s title defense against Alexander Povetkin has been postponed by the WBC after the Russian challenger failed a drug test, and Wilder’s promoter says it could be canceled altogether.The WBC says the Saturday fight in Moscow is off, pending an investigation, with no backup date.Towns named NBA Rookie of YearMinnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns has been voted the NBA’s Rookie of the Year, according to a person with direct knowledge of the award.The official announcement has not yet been made. The NBA was scheduled to announce the winner today.
