Rose Marie Reid, 82, of Franklin Township, Beaver County, died at 4:04 p.m. Saturday in the emergency room of Ellwood City Hospital.

Born April 22, 1925, in Butler, she was the daughter of Frank J. Lackey and Rose E. Capos.

She was a graduate of Butler High School and Mount Mercy College in Pittsburgh and had been valedictorian of both classes. She received her master's degree in mathematics from the University of Pittsburgh.

Mrs. Reid was a lifelong teacher. She began her career with the Pittsburgh Public Schools and later, after marrying her husband, James, moved to Ellwood City and taught algebra at Lincoln High School until she retired in 1962. After she retired, she continued as a substitute teacher and tutor. She tutored students until the day she died.

She was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish and the Christian Mothers of the church. She was a former organist at the church, and she played the piano since she was five.

She was famous for her delicious cooking, especially her chicken and her cakes.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Jeff Houk of Franklin Township, with whom she made her home; eight grandchildren, Matthew, Erin, Anthony, Megan and Andrei Paul Houk and James, Nicole and Michael Reid; a great-granddaughter, Emma Michelle Houk; and a brother, Robert S. Lackey, Pittsburgh.

Her husband, James P. Reid, who she married June 25, 1955, died Oct. 27, 1986. She also was preceded in death by a son, Robert James Reid, who died Oct. 10, 2007, and grandson, Michael David Houk.

<B>REID</B> — Friends of Rose Marie Reid, who died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at <B>JOSEPH A. TOMON JR. FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY</B>, 97 Grim Ave., Ellwood City. A memorial Mass will be held at Holy Redeemer Church at 10 a.m. Wednesday Interment will be in Holy Redeemer Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
