LOOKING AT 1965 — From left, Jimmy Metz, 7, Isabel Albert, 13, an unknown girl, and Barry Sexton, 8, spent a summer afternoon skateboarding on Elm Street in the Institute Hill neighborhood on June 28, 1965. This photograph was with a story about the decline of skateboarding. Little did the group or the reporter know that 41 years later, skateboarding is enjoying its third revival and appears to be here to stay. The proof? Butler opened its first skate park on Oct. 26, 2002, at Father Marinaro Park. If anyone knows the identity of the unknown female skateboarder in the middle with the plain shorts, contact the Butler Eagle at 724-282-8000 and ask for the newsroom. The Eagle will publish file photographs from the past each Wednesday and Sunday.
