Foster has started 30 straight games at guard, solidifying himself as a dependable option on the offensive line after signing with the Steelers as an undrafted rookie out of Tennessee in 2009.
Dieng nabs Big Eastdefensive honorNEW YORK — Louisville junior Gorgui Dieng, who was second in Big East play in rebounding (10.8) and blocked shots (2.8) has been selected the conference's defensive player of the year.The Big East also announced Monday that the league's coaches selected Kadeem Batts of Providence and Michael Carrter-Williams of Syracuse to share the Most Improved Player Award. Marquette junior Davante Gardner won the Sixth Man Award and teammate Junior Cadougan won the Sportsmanship Award.The conference will announce coach, player and rookie of the year on Tuesday.
Cavaliers' Irving out 3-4 weeksINDEPENDENCE, Ohio — Cavaliers All-Star guard Kyrie Irving could miss the next month with a sprained left shoulder.Irving, who has dealt with injuries during his brief NBA career, sprained his shoulder Sunday night in a loss to Toronto. He collided with Raptors rookie forward Jonas Valanciunas.The Cavs have 19 games left this season, so it's possible Irving will not play again.Knicks' Stoudemireundergoes surgeryOAKLAND, Calif. — New York Knicks big man Amare Stoudemire has undergone surgery on his right knee.The Knicks said after Monday's surgery that Stoudemire is expected to miss at least six weeks.Stoudemire missed the first 30 games after having the same surgery, called a debridement, on his left knee during the preseason. He returned on New Year's Day and has averaged 14.2 points in 29 games as a reserve.
Threats cancel Vick's book tourPHILADELPHIA — Michael Vick's book-signing tour has been canceled because of threats against him for running a dogfighting ring.The Philadelphia Eagles' quarterback was scheduled to sign copies of his autobiography “Finally Free,” at Barnes & Noble stores in Atlanta, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The March 26 appearance set for Exton, Pa., was listed as canceled on the company'swebsite.
Ducks, Lightning agree to tradeANAHEIM, Calif. — The Anaheim Ducks have acquired center Kyle Wilson from Tampa Bay in exchange for right wing Dan Sexton.The clubs announced the swap of minor league forwards Monday.Wilson has played in 39 NHL games and has five points in 22 AHL games this season with Syracuse.Sexton has 16 points in 27 games with the Ducks' AHL affiliate in Norfolk this season.
