The Grace Youth and Family Foundation will host a Black History Month celebration from 1 to 5:30 p.m. Feb. 19 at The Net Outreach center, 100 Center Ave.
The event will begin with a showing of the movie "Porgy and Bess."
At 3 p.m., samples of African-American cuisine will be available. Participants can also visit an art display by Willie Hobbs and informational displays created by students.
From 4 to 5:30 p.m. live music and poetry will be presented by local artists. The session will include a performance by Tim Smith and the COL Band from Center of Life in Pittsburgh. The guest speaker will be Dwight Greer.

The Helping All Victims In Need (HAVIN) domestic violence and sexual assault center is seeking volunteers for its shelter, hotline and other programs.A 60-hour training seminar will begin March 6. GIBSONIA — An overview of swallowing disorders and treatments will be the focus of the February Doc Talks at the Village at St. Barnabas, 5850 Meridian Road.Led by speech language pathologists Nicole Vislay and Lynn Tobin, the event will be held at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 20 in Hilltop Hall.The speakers will discuss dysphagia and treatments for the disorder.The presentation is open to the public. NORTH HILLS — The Northland Public Library, 300 Cumberland Road, will offer free income tax preparation assistance for senior citizens and low-income families from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and Thursdays through April 13.Trained volunteers are available and will assist participants on a first-come, first-serve basis.Blank tax forms are available at the library.Notices, in writing, of festivals, fundraising events, newly elected officers and other news from clubs and non-profit groups should be sent to the Focus department one week in advance of the event.
