Fire Cracker 5K starts celebration in Zelienople

ZELIENOPLE — The annual Fourth of July celebration in the borough will kick off with a 5K run.

The Fire Cracker 5K will start at 8 a.m. July 4. Participants can either walk or run 5K or 1 mile.

There will be awards for age groups ranging from 3 to older than 70. Proceeds of the run benefit the Friends of the Park.

The parade will start at 11 a.m. Residents are welcome to set up chairs along the parade route which will go down Main Street and Beaver Street, ending at the community park.

After the parade there will be a celebration in the park, including food, games for children, live music and free swimming in the pool.

The duck derby race will be at 1:50 p.m. at the pool. People who buy tickets corresponding to ducks in the race could win cash prizes.

Tickets are available at the borough office, 111 W. New Castle St.

The day will conclude with fireworks in the park, which are expected to start about 9:45 p.m.
