Meadville motorist injured in crash on Interstate 79
JACKSON TWP — The driver of a Jeep Wrangler who was entrapped in his vehicle when it hit the rear of a dump truck Tuesday morning was flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital.
State police report that Shawn M. King, 33, of Meadville was northbound on Interstate 79, near the Harmony exit, about 9 a.m. when the accident occurred.
Police said King sustained moderate injuries after his 2006 Jeep struck the back of a triaxle dump truck driven by Harold Denson, 45, of Monroeville.
King was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh.
Harmony Fire Department Chief Neal Nanna said the impact caused King to be trapped in the wreckage.
Crew members from the Harmony and Zelienople fire departments responded to the scene and were able to free the man.
He was taken by Harmony EMS to the parking lot at Sysco Pittsburgh off Route 68, from where he was flown to the hospital.
His injuries and status are unknown, Nanna said.
Denson was not injured.
The accident forced the closure of one lane of I-79 for about two hours, Nanna said.
