SRU hoops score sweep

The Slippery Rock University men’s basketball team secured a home Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference playoff game with a 70-51 win over Seton Hill at Morrow Field House Saturday.

Antonio Butler scored 16 of The Rock’s first 17 points and finished with a team-leading 22. He also had 10 rebounds.

Two other SRU players recorded double-doubles in the win. Malcolm Richardson had 13 points and 10 rebounds and Frank Holloway added 11 points and 10 boards for The Rock (18-7, 13-6).

SRU is guaranteed at least a fourth-place finish in the PSAC-West and a home game Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. as the conference playoffs tip off.

Should The Rock, which has three PSAC games remaining, climb into the top two spots, it will receive a first-round bye in the playoffs.

Women’s Basketball

Slippery Rock jumped out to a 15-point lead at the half and held off Seton Hill for a pivotal 87-82 PSAC win.

The Rock (10-13, 6-13) is now tied for the sixth and final playoff spot in the conference tournament with Pitt-Johnstown and owns the tiebreaker.

SRU had five players reach double figures in scoring, led by D’Asia Chambers with 20. Audrey Stapleton (18), Eric Aiello (13), Taylor Siggers (12) and Megan Hardiman were the others.

Baseball

Slippery Rock wrapped up a four-game series at King University in Tennessee with a doubleheader split Saturday.

The Rock dropped the first game, 15-6, before pulling out a 12-10 victory in the nightcap.

Logan Brown and Jordan Faretta were big contributors at the plate for SRU (3-1). Brown homered and went 4-for-7 with two-RBI while Faretta was 4-for-7 with four RBI and a double.
