Shelby 'Jean' Silvis

Shelby “Jean” Silvis, 74, of West Sunbury passed away at 8:20 p.m. Saturday at the Butler VNA Inpatient Hospice following a short illness.

Jean was born June 9, 1938, in Karns City. She was the daughter of the late Lawrence William Claypoole and the late Carrie Marie Early Claypoole.

Jean was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Emlenton and the Young at Heart Club. She was a devoted housewife and loving mother and grandmother. Jean loved crocheting, reading, cooking and spending time with her family.

Jean is survived by her husband of 55 years, Raymond Silvis, who she married Oct. 12, 1957; one daughter, Mrs. David (Christina “Tina”) Sloan of West Sunbury; two sons, Michael (Dana) Silvis of Pittsburgh and Alan (Tammy) Silvis of Meadville; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Four sisters, Connie Wolford of Karns City, Sandy Lincoln of Chicora, Joyce (Bob) Ciani of Sarver and Carol “Sue” McCue of Chicora, also survive.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, one grandson, and one son-in-law.

SILVIS — Friends of Shelby “Jean” Silvis, who passed away Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, will be received at the William F. Young Funeral Home, 132 Main St., West Sunbury, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation also will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Faith Fellowship Baptist Church in Emlenton where services will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jacob Langdon and Pastor Philip Thomas officiating.Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Chicora.
