Donna Smith

Donna A. Smith, 64, of Butler passed away Saturday at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Donna was born on July 24, 1949, in Roanoke Rapids, N.C., the daughter of the late James and Minnie Acree.

She attended Roanoke Rapids High School and moved to Washington, D.C., for a job at USIA. While there, she met her beloved husband, John M. Smith. She was wed to John on Oct. 2, 1971. Donna and John moved to Butler, and raised three sons, Michael Smith, Nathan Smith and David Smith.

Donna was then a homemaker before beginning her career at the Radiology Department of the Butler Memorial Hospital in the transcription department. She retired after 31 years of faithful service, making many lifelong friends.

Donna enjoyed spending time with her grandson, Anthony, fun-filled trips to Las Vegas, Atlantic City and area casinos for slots play, vacations at the beach and being with her family.

Donna began her battle with cancer in 1999. Throughout her journey, she was an inspiration to all who met her. She had a zest for life, living each day to the fullest. Her kind soul and compassion touched all around her.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Betty Ann Davis; her grandson, Johnathan James Smith, and her father-in-law, Dale Smith.

Donna is survived by her husband, John; her son, Michael and his wife, Bridget; her son, Nathan, his wife, Diane, and their son, Anthony (Donna's loving grandson); her son, David and his wife, Jessica; her mother-in-law, Lucille Smith; her sister-in-law, Sally Ann (Smith) Bulger and her husband, Ed; her brother-in-law, Robert Smith and his wife, Linda; her sister-in-law, Janice (Smith) Groschen and her husband, Steve; her brother-in-law, Mark Smith; her sister-in-law, Karen (Smith) Williams and her husband, Rob, and a number of nieces and nephews, and her cousins.

SMITH — A funeral Mass for Donna A. Smith, who passed away Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's of the Assumption Church in Herman.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Butler Health Foundation, Women's Imaging Department at Butler Memorial Hospital.Funeral arrangements are entrusted to GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, Butler.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
