Summit Township artist Bill Secunda's "Dancing with Lions" has reached the top 10 in ArtPrize 2010. Secunda took home fifth place in the same competition last year, garnering a $7,000 prize.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — When the first round of voting ended last week, voters in ArtPrize 2010 had again selected Bill Secunda of Summit Township as one of the top 10.

Secunda captured fifth place in the same competition last year with a life-size sculpture of a moose made from 1,200 pounds of welded nails. The prize for fifth was $7,000.

This year Secunda and his "Dancing with Lions" metal sculpture have moved on to a second round of voting, which began immediately following the announcement of the top 10.

This year's competition began Sept. 22 with 1,713 artists displaying their works at 192 venues.

The announcement of the winner of the world's largest art prize of $250,000 was to be named today. The top 10 artists share a total of $449,000.

Other top 10 artists come from Florida, Michigan, North Carolina, Texas, New Mexico and California as well as Quebec, Canada.
