Andrew L. Nelson, 88, of Saxonburg died Tuesday at the Saxony Health Center.

Born Aug. 3, 1918, in Lanark, W. Va., he was the son of Harvey Spencer Nelson and Margaret Henderson Nelson.

He graduated from the Greenbrier Military School and from the Virginia Military Institute.

Mr. Nelson retired in 1982 as a civil engineer at the U.S. Steel sintering plant in Saxonburg.

He was a member of the Saxonburg Memorial Presbyterian Church, Swissvale Lodge 636 F&AM, Syria Temple AANOMS of Pittsburgh and the VMI Alumni.

Surviving are his wife, Genevieve Roebuck Slater Nelson, whom he married Jan. 10, 1978; two sons, Dr. Spence Nelson of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Andrew Nelson Jr. of Albuquerque, N.M.; three stepsons, Richard Slater of Savannah, Ga., Jeffrey Slater of Valencia and Jonathan Slater of Saxonburg; two grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter.

Preceding him in death were a sister and his first wife, Altheda Nelson.
