John Harris Crede
John Harris Crede, 98, of Gibsonia and St. Barnabas Communities, formerly of Natrona Heights, died Friday.
Born Feb. 16, 1913, in Wilkinsburg, and raised in Edgewood, he was the son of the late Edward and Lillian (Harris) Crede.
The beloved husband and partner in life for over 71 years of the late Louise (Morris) Crede, who he married on Oct. 14, 1933, in Golden, Colo., and who died Nov. 21, 2004. He also was preceded in death by his brother, Robert E. Crede.
He was the loving father of John H. (Joyce) Crede Jr. of Butler and Nancy Crede (Michael) Nicolella of Upper St. Clair. He also is survived by five cherished grandchildren, Jeffrey Crede, Jay (Julie) Crede, Cynthia (Todd) Gibson, Michael (Marie) Nicolella and Lacy Nicolella; and six dear great-grandchildren, Ryan and Taylor Crede, Jamie and Jessica Crede, and Savannah and Chloe Gibson.
Mr. Crede was the longest living graduate of Carson Long Military Academy, Class of 1931, and was a 1935 graduate of Colorado School of Mines, Golden, Colo., where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. A longtime metallurgy engineer with the Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp., John was director of research for the magnetic materials laboratory.
In 1978, he retired after a successful career that included the Presidential Medal in 1949. Throughout the 1950s he conducted influential research focusing on radar, guided missiles and memory metals and electronics.
