[naviga:h3]SRU’s Martin gets Region One honors[/naviga:h3]

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University sophomore defensive end Marcus Martin has been voted Super Region One Defensive Player of the Year by the region’s sports information directors.

Martin and SRU offensive lineman Kyle Henderson were named Division II Academic All-Americans.

Joining Martin as first team all-region selections from SRU are running back Shamar Greene, tackle Cory Tucker, linebacker Teven Williams and punter Andrew Huska.

Earning second team all-region honors are Rock center Joe LoSchiavo and linebacker Bob Vernick, a Butler graduate.

[naviga:h3]Mars grad White earns all-region[/naviga:h3]

GROVE CITY — Mars graduate and Grove City College junior women’s soccer center back Jordyn White has been named third team All-Great Lakes Region.

White had five goals and five assists while helping the GCC defense post 12 shutouts and a 0.86 goals-against average.

[naviga:h3]SV grad Koerper gets academic A-A[/naviga:h3]

CLARION — Seneca Valley graduate and Clarion University junior defensive tackle Matt Koerper has been named first team Academic All-American.

Koerper tied for the team lead with eight quarterback sacks and had 45 tackles for the Golden Eagles, including 13 tackles for loss.

He is carrying a 3.75 grade point average as an accounting major.

[naviga:h3]SV grad Bilka soccer all-region[/naviga:h3]

ERIE — Seneca Valley graduate and Penn State Behrend junior women’s soccer forward Alex Bilka has been named first team All-Great Lakes Region.

Bilka was AMCC Offensive Player of the Year this season with 17 goals, 11 assists and 45 points.

[naviga:h3]BC3 men, women fall to Jamestown[/naviga:h3]

BUTLER TWP — The Butler County Community College women’s basketball team lost a four-point lead and fell 51-48 to Jamestown Community College Wednesday night at home.

Christina Davis led the Pioneers (4-3) with 16 points, while Julia Baxter contributed 11 points and 13 rebounds.

The BC3 men lost 109-73 and were led by Austin Miller, who scored 25 points. The Pioneers fell to 0-6.

[naviga:h3]Mars grad leads PS Behrend in win[/naviga:h3]

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Mars graduate Ali Goetz scored 19 points to lead the Penn State Behrend women’s basketball team to a 58-55 win over D’Youville Wednesday night in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play.

Goetz scored seven of the Lions’ eight points in the fourth quarter.

Goetz also made four 3-pointers for PS Behrend (3-2, 1-0).
