Charles McDeavitt

Charles O. McDeavitt, 81, of 1120 Slippery Rock Road in Liberty Township, Mercer County, formerly of Brady Township, Butler County, died at 11:50 a.m. Tuesday at the UPMC Greenville campus after a brief illness.

Born in Renick Place, near Keister in Slippery Township, he was the son of Frank D. and Blanche E. Piper McDeavitt.

He was a World War II Army veteran and retired in 1982 from the Pullman Standard plant as an overhead crane operator.

Mr. McDeavitt was a Baptist. He enjoyed his family, flowers and gardening.

Surviving are three children, Charles O. McDeavitt Jr. and his wife, Monica J., of Grove City, La Vada McDeavitt Uber and her husband, John, of Oviedo, Fla., and Thomas O. McDeavitt and his wife, Denise, of Slippery Rock; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He also is survived by three sisters, Twila McNeish of Grove City, Edna Edes of Slippery Rock and Stella Giroski of Mercer; and two brothers, Arthur McDeavitt of Titusville and Kenneth McDeavitt and his wife, Leona, of Butler.

His wife, Florence L. Bell McDeavitt, whom he married Aug. 8, 1947, died Jan. 18, 2005. Three brothers, Floyd, Paul and Robert McDeavitt; and a sister, Annie Hines, also preceded him in death.

<B>McDEAVITT</B> — Friends of Charles O. McDeavitt, who died Tuesday, March 28, 2006, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Cunningham funeral Home, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at the North Liberty Cemetery.
