Margie Jane (Brandon) Smith, 91, of Zelienople passed away late Tuesday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice from complications following a stroke.

She was born in Youngs-town, Ohio, on April 8, 1923, to the late Dight Brandon and Alice (Guise) Brandon.

During her career, she worked as a nurse's aide at the Lutheran Old People's Home, Zelienople, and Passavant Hospital, North Hills. She was particularly proud of her work as an overhead crane operator at Pullman Standard during World War II.

She is survived by her two sons, Thomas L. Smith and his wife, Terri, of Zelienople and Gary B. Smith and his wife, Pamela, of Butler; her two grandchildren, Chad Smith and his wife, Carolyn, of Alamo, Calif., and Sarah Bell and her husband, Michael, of Butler; and her four great-grandchildren, Drake and Austin Smith of Alamo, Calif., and David and Naomi Bell of Butler.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas C. Smith of Zelienople, who she married on March 21, 1952, and who passed away on Nov. 25, 2008.
