First day of school ends with a wreck
A teenager on her way to first day of classes at Butler County Community College suffered only bumps and bruises this morning when she wrecked her car on Route 356 in Jefferson Township.
State police had to use a knife to cut off the seat belt of Haley Rearick, 19, of Butler, whose Toyota Camry ended on its roof about 8:30 a.m. just north of Great Belt Road.
Police said Rearick was traveling north when her car traveled over uneven pavement on the newly paved road.
The car went to the right and struck loose gravel, she told police. She lost control of the car while trying to overcorrect and hit an embankment on the west side of the road before rolling onto its roof.
A Saxonburg Ambulance crew tended to her.
