Michael Sybert of Middlesex Township recently finished third in sparring at the National Collegiate Taekwondo Association Championships at the University of California-Davis.
Sybert, a graduate of Mars High School, compiled a 3-2 record in the black belt welterweight division, winning two matches by knockout.
He is a junior at Penn State, where he is president and team captain of the university's tae kwon do club, which recently won the excellence in martial arts award at PSU,
The finish qualified Sybert for the USA Taekwondo National Championships July 2-3 in San Jose, Calif.
Sybert is a 4th degree black belt at Young Brothers and trains at the school in Cranberry Township.
NEW YORK — Major League Baseball and its players union have released a summary report of drug tests performed over the past three years.The report, released Friday and verified by program administrator Dr. Bryan W. Smith, does not indicate how many players tested positive for banned substances, only the total number of tests.There were 10,955 tests performed under baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program on players from the beginning of the 2007-08 offseason to the end of last postseason. All players tested were members of their team's 40-man roster.

AVONDALE, La. — Bubba Watson shot a 4-under 68 on Friday to take a one-stroke lead over Josh Teater after the second round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.Watson, the Torrey Pines winner in late January, had a 10-under 134 total at TPC Louisiana.Teater shot a 66, dropping two strokes with a double bogey on the par-5 18th.
WASHINGTON — Tampa Bay Lightning left wing Simon Gagne was helped to the dressing room during Game 1 of his team's playoff series against the Washington Capitals after he banged his head against the ice during a scary fall Friday night.Gagne didn't return after the first-period play.
