Man jailed after crash; police say drugs found
A large amount of suspected crack cocaine and what appeared to be heroin was seized following a weekend crash in northern Butler County, state police said.
But after the defendant Christopher B. Myers, 37, of Clay Township, was placed in the Butler County Prison, correctional officers allegedly found more of the same drugs.
He remains behind bars in lieu of $100,000 bond on felony drug possession and other charges.
Troopers were called about 11:15 a.m. Saturday for an accident on St. John Road in Brady Township and found Myers, who they suspected was impaired, police said. His car was in a ditch.
Police arrested him for driving on drugs after he failed field sobriety tests. He was searched and allegedly found with multiple stamp bags of suspected heroin, $605 and a drug-smoking pipe.
In “plain view” in Myers' car, police said, was a “large amount” of crack. The search of the vehicle turned up additional drugs and contraband.
Myers, who also was wanted on warrants, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology results are pending.
He was subsequently placed in the county prison where police said correctional officers found more crack and stamp bags.
In all, according to charging documents, Myers is accused of having 1.05 ounces of crack, 15 stamp bags of heroin, a scale, three empty stamp bags and two glass smoking pipes.
District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned the defendant on felony charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance in prison.
Additionally, Stoughton arraigned him on misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence of a controlled substance, and two traffic violations.
His preliminary hearing is tentatively set for Wednesday at the office of District Judge Bill O'Donnell in Slippery Rock. It was not immediately known if he had an attorney.
