Reutzel repeats All-Star triumph
BUFFALO TWP - Aaron Reutzel is 2-for-2 at Lernerville Speedway.
The sprint driver won the All-Star Circuit of Champions Series race for the second straight year here Friday in his second trip to the track.
“I like it here,” said Reutzel, a resident of Clute, Texas, near Houston. “It's a racey, wide track and you have options where you want to be out there.”
Gerard McIntyre started on the pole and Reutzel wasn't in the top five. But after the second caution flag of the race, which came just as the leaders were set to begin the eighth lap, Reutzel grabbed the lead and never gave it up.
Reutzel first had to find an opening. The first two options were taken.
“Paul (McMahan, finished second) had the bottom covered and (McIntyre) had the top,” said Reutzel. “I knew I had to do something. I went through the middle and it was clear. This win is a testament to the whole team.”
The All-Star Circuit of Champions Series had experienced a number of rainouts this season. In fact, Friday's show was a makeup of a card originally scheduled here May 3.
The weather earlier on Friday did not seem conducive to racing, with several thunderstorms moving through.
“It didn't look too promising there for a while,” said Reutzel. “To get the opportunity to race tonight, and win, it's fantastic.”
Greg Dobrosky made winning the Allegheny Sprint Tour 305 feature look rather easy.
The resident of Kittanning led the 20-lap race from start to finish.
“I live 10 minutes from here and have been coming here forever,” said Dobrosky. “I always have family show up and it's always nice to win at home.”
Dobrosky recently won at Mercer Raceway three consecutive weeks. He took the checkered flag here Friday after three caution flags. Jonathan Jones, who never dropped out of the top five, was runner-up.
“I was debating where I wanted to race (on the track) ahead of time,” said Dobrosky. “I ended up running low (turns 1 and 2) and high (3 and 4).”
Dobrosky has been racing in 305s for eight years for car owner Ed Demmy, a former Butler resident who now lives in North Carolina.
