Walter Lorence

Walter Joseph “Walt” Lorence, 74, of Butler passed away Friday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born Dec. 10, 1940, in Blan-chard, Pa., to the late Francis Lorence and the late Stella (Kukalinski) Lorence.

Walt was a graduate of West Deer High School and Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor's degree in music education.

Walt had been a music teacher, and then before his retirement in 2003, he was in corrugated sales at Tri-Wall of Butler, Ind.

He was a lector director at Saint Fidelis and a fish fry volunteer for many years. Walt was a prior director of the Butler Notables, an a cappella barbershop group. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fixing things and music.

Walt is survived by his wife, Kathyleen (Biss) Lorence, who he married in 1965; one son, Erik Lorence and his wife, Jennifer (McHenry), of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Christine (Lorence) Neigh and her husband, Matt, of Germantown, Md., and Alison Lorence of Astoria, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Madeleine Neigh and Cameron Neigh; one brother, Al Lorence and his wife, Joan, of New Kensington, Pa.; one niece, Tara Van Bennekom; and three nephews, Mark Lorence, Kurt Lorence and Paul Lorence.

LORENCE — Friends of Walter Joseph “Walt” Lorence, who died Friday, Nov. 6, 2015, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.A memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Fidelis Parish, 125 Buttercup Road, Butler, with the Rev. James Murphy of St. Fidelis Parish officiating.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the music program at his grandchildren's school, Montessori Country School of MD/Butler Montessori, 15951 Germantown Road, Darnestown, MD 20874.Online condolences can be given at www.thompson-miller.com.
