Church will host author, mother

Author Katie Schell and her mother Pega Crimbchin will share Pega’s inspiring story of her escape from communism in war-torn South Korea in the early 1950s at 7 p.m. Sunday at Nixon United Methodist Church, 334 Airport Road.

Schell has written a book about her mother’s ordeal titled “Love Beyond Measure: Memoirs of a Korean War Bride.”

Books will be available for purchase, and a goodwill offering will be accepted. All proceeds help pay for new water wells in poor countries through Women of the Wells, a nonprofit based in California.

St Mark’s will host concert

St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W. Jefferson St., will host a concert of sacred music by the Western Pennsylvania Music and Arts Academy at 3 p.m. Sunday in the church sanctuary.

Doors will open at 2:30 p.m. A freewill offering will be collected, and the concert will be followed by a reception in the fellowship hall.

The concert will feature an adult community choir, a children’s choir and various instrumentalists. Their repertoire will include gospel selections, spirituals and psalms from the Old Testament.

Church sponsors free lecture

Maryl Walker, Christian Science lecturer and teacher, will give a free talk on “Love, Claiming its Power in our Relationship and Communities” at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Room T-200 on the second floor of the Succop Theater Building, 107 College Drive, on the campus of Butler County Community College.

The event is sponsored by First Church of Christ, Scientist, Butler.
