BRENDA MAXWELL (Seneca Valley), a sophomore on the Bethany (W.Va.) College swimming team, won the 1,000-meter freestyle in 12:14.10 and the 500 freestyle in 6 minutes, 2.68 seconds in a meet against Penn State-Altoona. She also swam the anchor leg on the Bison's winning 200 freestyle relay. Against Grove City on Wednesday, she also took first place in the 1,000 freestyle (11:54.37) and the 500 freestyle (5:49.52).•

KIM NOWAKOWSKI (Butler), a junior forward for the California (Pa.) University women's basketball team, recorded 22 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Vulcans to a 68-56 win over Salem International on Tuesday.
