Elizabeth Catherine “Bets” McClain

Elizabeth Catherine “Bets” McClain, 97, of Saxonburg, formerly of Lower Burrell and Natrona Heights, passed away Monday.

She was born Jan. 8, 1920, in Natrona Heights.

Elizabeth graduated from Villa Maria girls' high school in Villa Maria, Pa. She was a former proprietor of McClain's Market in Natrona Heights. She was a member of St. Margaret Mary's Church, Lower Burrell, and most recently St. Joseph's in Cabot, the American Legion and the VFW 92. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. Elizabeth thought it was a privilege to volunteer in helping with various veterans' programs. She truly cared about those who gave so much to our country.

Elizabeth also enjoyed gardening, bird watching and was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan. Elizabeth was a life-long resident of the Allegheny Valley area and recently resided with Glen and Mary Freehling of Saxonburg.

She is survived by a son, Allen (Rita Shotts) McClain; two granddaughters, Shelley (Nicholas) Hutchens and Stacy (Leo) Sanchez; four great-grandchildren, Devin McClain, and Samantha Sanchez, Sydney Sanchez and Logan Sanchez; four great-great-grandchildren Maisie (4), Abel (4), Jaiden (1), and Charlene (1 day old), all of Spring, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Raleigh D. McClain; her parents, Clarence and Mary Juanita (Collins) Kelly; a brother, Joseph D. Kelly; a sister, Martha C. Kelley Davidson; as well as an infant sister.

MCCLAIN — Friends of Elizabeth Catherine “Bets” McClain, who died Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, are invited to attend a Christian funeral Mass at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 315 Stoney Hollow Road, Cabot. Officiating will be the Rev. Mark Pattock. Private burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Lower Burrell Lions Club at lburrelllionsclub@gmail.com in support of the blind, or the Lower Burrell Volunteer Fire Department No. 3, 3255 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell, PA 15068.Arrangements are being handled by Rusiewicz Funeral Home, 3124 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell.Please visit www.rusiewiczfh.com.
