Margaret G. “Peggy” (Zang) Giel
Margaret G. “Peggy” (Zang) Giel, 90, of Richland Township died Sunday.
She was born in Hampton Township on July 18, 1925, daughter of the late Louis H. and Mary J. Zang.
She was the beloved wife of Thomas V. Giel Sr. She is survived by her sons, Robert L. of Massachusetts, Thomas V. Jr. (Vickie) of Tennessee, Jeffrey D. of Vermont, Edward B. (Jackie) of Gibsonia, Scott A. of Valencia, and Gerald L. (Janice) of Butler; her three daughters, Penny (Patrick) Bopp of Fredericksburg, Va., Cynthia (Milton) Knouse of Gettysburg, Pa., and Mary Ellen (Paul) Foster of Laytonsville, Md.; 24 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and was the sister of Harry Zang.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Louis, John, Thomas and Frank Zang and her sisters Louise, Helen and Cecelia Zang, Mary Fuhrer, Patricia Hardt and Rita Shane, all of Pennsylvania.
Peg was a graduate in the first class of 1943 of Hampton High School. She was a parish member of St. Richard Catholic Church and served in its ministries as well as being a member of the St. Richards Ladies Group and the Forever Young Senior's Association.
She served many years on the Penn State Executive Committee and Advisory Board and along with her husband, worked with youth as a leader in various 4-H programs, receiving awards for service in this area as well as from the Penn State Home Economics Association. She and her husband together held the office of president of the North Hills Square Dance Club and also president of the Western Pennsylvania Square and Round Dance Federation and served as a director of the United Square Dancers of America.
GIEL — The family of Margaret G. “Peggy” (Zang) Giel, who died Sunday, May 1, 2016, will welcome friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Schellhaas & Sons Funeral Home & Cremation Services, INC., 1600 Stone Mansion Drive, Sewickley/Franklin Park.
