Mary Jane Thompson
Mary Jane Thompson, 72, of Charlotte, N.C., passed away on Thursday at Levine & Dixon Hospice House at Southminster, Charlotte, N.C., after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
Born Feb. 20, 1945, in Chicora, she was the daughter of John L. Williams and Dorothy Collier Williams.
She was a retired teacher’s assistant from Huntingtown Farms Elementary in Charlotte, N.C., and had previously been employed at Castle Rubber in East Butler.
Mary Jane was a graduate of Karns City High School.
She loved cooking for her family and extended this love by teaching her granddaughters this craft, especially baking. She was known for her delicious pumpkin pies and zucchini bread.
Her favorite moments in life were spent being a grandma, which was her true calling.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband, Larry Thompson of Charlotte, whom she married Sept. 9, 1967, and would have celebrated 50 years with this year; a son Michael Thompson and daughter-in-law Tawana Thompson of Rock Hill, S.C.; a daughter Melissa Thompson-Camden and son-in-law Chris Camden of Knoxville, Tenn.; three adored grandchildren Alyssa, Kennedy, and Tess; and two sisters-in-law who were more like sisters, Karen Buss of Saxonburg and Barb Thompson of Slippery Rock.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, as well two brothers, Dick and Jack Williams.
THOMPSON — Friends and loved ones of Mary Jane Thompson, who died Thursday, June 15, 2017, will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fox Funeral Home, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg. A service will directly follow at the funeral home with the Rev. John Porter officiating.
Interment will follow at Westminster Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Saxonburg.
Memorial donations may be made on her behalf to Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Southminster, Charlotte, N.C., or Concordia Lutheran Ministries Hospice of Cabot; or a hospice of your choice.
