CRANBERRY TWP — Paige Wojdyla will carry a summer's worth of momentum into her senior season on the Seneca Valley girls golf team.

The township resident recently won the Tri-State Section Junior Golf Tournament Series Player of the Year award for girls ages 16 to 18.

More than 30 competitors in Wojdyla's age division accumulated points over the course of 16 tournaments that began in mid-June and concluded Aug. 5.

Wojdyla, who competed in 13 events, won the title after totaling 462 points. She placed second six times and tied for first place during an event at Willowbrook Country Club near Apollo.

"It wasn't about winning the title," said Wojdyla. "I was just looking to improve this summer.

"But it was great to finish with the most points. I worked really hard," she added.

Wojdyla began playing golf competitively when she joined the girls team as a high school freshman in 2007.

"I wanted to play a team sport and golf sounded like fun," she said. "There's always room for improvement in golf. It's such a challenge.

"My driving has significantly improved over the years. Overall, my game has gotten better," she added.

As a junior in 2009, Wojdyla consistently shot in the high 30s to low 40s per nine holes and was named Seneca Valley's co-MVP with Jenn Suder after the season.

Wojdyla has become quite familiar with the Connoquenessing Country Club golf course, where the Raiders play their home matches.

"Most of the holes are pretty straight forward," she said. "But the fairways are pretty narrow and some of the greens are tricky."

Wojdyla, who hopes to play for a Division I team in college after graduating next spring, is excited about her senior campaign.

"As a team, I'm hoping we can finish number one in the section," she said. "We have a pretty strong team coming back. Individually, I would like to keep my average in the 30s."
