Miona McCandless
Miona Evelyn Bachman McCandless, 89, of Grove Manor in Grove City, formerly of Slippery Rock Township, died at 7:32 p.m. Friday.
She was born in Butler on April 21, 1921, to Gilbert Carl Bachman and Elva Mae Croup Bachman.
She married Woodrow “Woody” Pershing McCandless in October 1947. He preceded her in death on May 19, 2001.
She was a homemaker.
She was raised Lutheran and attended the Church of God in Grove City.
She was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, having serving from 1943 until being Honorably Discharged in December 1945.
She was a member of the AARP in Grove City and a former member of the Hugh Mercer Chapter DAR of Grove City.
She enjoyed reading, working in her flower garden, and tending to her dogs, cats and other animals. She was a great cook and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She also enjoyed traveling with the AARP.
She is survived by one daughter, Dianna L. Kelly and her husband, Donald, of Grove City; one grandson, Daniel J. Pack and his wife, Teresa, of Marienville; and three great-grandchildren, Shawna, Reagan and Brody Pack of Marienville.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Russell.
<B>MCCANDLESS</B> — Friends of Miona Evelyn Bachman McCandless, who died Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, will be received Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. Services will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. David Ealy, pastor of Forestville United Methodist Church, officiating.
