Masking policies for school districts in Butler County
Masks required
Schools of the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh will begin the 2021-22 school year with mandatory masking indoors for students, faculty and staff, regardless of vaccination status, unless medical or developmental conditions prohibit their use.
Masks are required inside all school buildings (pre-K to 12) for all staff and students who are 2 years or older, unless medical or developmental conditions prohibit their use. This includes all vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals. Frequent mask breaks will be provided.
Masks recommended but not mandatedThe district is encouraging, but not mandating, masking for all students and staff during the school day. On buses and vans, masks are required at all times. These requirements may change if there are additional COVID-19 cases in the district or county.
Masks recommended but not requiredMasks are recommended for all faculty, staff and visitors. They are not required at school or school-related events.KN95 masks will be available for faculty and students who want an additional level of protection.
Masks not required in schoolsFASD students, staff and visitors are not required to wear facial coverings in the school and at school district functions. Anyone can wear facial coverings if they choose to do so while in school. In the event of a state or federal mandate, facial covering protocol may be modified. In that case, the school board will call a special meeting to advise the community of the new protocol.

If at any time during the school year, the state requires masks, the district will be obligated to abide by this requirement. Although masks will not be mandated in the school building, they are still required on school-related transportation, per state orders.
Masks not required in schoolsUnder the Health and Safety Plan, the use of face coverings (masks or shields) will be voluntary as the district will not require that face coverings be worn by either students or staff. The district will not require masking without a specific mandate or emergency order that provides it with the authority to do so. As stated in the district's Health and Safety Plan, if at any point, the governor's office, Department of Health or the CDC issue a mandate requiring face coverings, then the district will comply.

Students, staff members and/or members of the community will be permitted the option to wear a face mask/shield if they choose to do so.
Masks requiredIn Monday's school district meeting, Seneca Valley became the first public school district in Butler County to require masks in school. The district approved an amendment to the health and safety plan that requires students to wear masks while the county is in the substantial or high category of local COVID-19 transmission as defined by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Masks not required in schoolsAt this time, the district will not require face coverings unless directed to do so by local, state or federal guidelines. Students and staff may choose to wear a face covering at school and/or school functions.
Masks not required in schools; recommended for nonvaccinatedAs per the June 28 lifting of the mask mandate, staff members will not be required to wear a mask when in school buildings. Staff members will have the option of wearing a mask if they so choose when in the school buildings. All staff choosing to wear a mask are encouraged to bring a mask to school. Students and staff who have not been vaccinated are encouraged to wear masks.
