CHESTER, W.Va. — Butler heavyweight Brian Minto (29-2, 18 KOs) will defend his WBAFedecentro boxing title belt against Chad Van Sickle (22-7, 12 KOs) of Columbus, Ohio, in a 12-round bout April 27 at The Harv.

The fight is the main event on a seven-bout card that begins at 2 p.m.

The co-feature is a NABAlightweight title fight between Verquan Kimbrough (19-1-1, 7 KOs) of Aliquippa and Rodney Jones (27-7, 13 KOs) of Fort Smith, Ark.

INDIANA, Pa. — The Pittsburgh 3-Rivers 18 North Junior Olympic volleyball team went undefeated last weekend in winning the Crimson Hawk Tournament.There were 12 teams participating and the 3-Rivers team went 10-0. Butler County players on the team include Lauren Balmert, Justine Carrow, Margaret Gillooly and Meghan Franz from Seneca Valley, and Stephanie Mock and Becky Smith from Butler.Other players are Noelle Lininger from Fox Chapel, Maria Nolan from North Allegheny and Erin Bean from Clarion. The team was coached by Rob Snyder.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University track and field coach John Papa and women's pole vaulter Jennifer Hansen were honored by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.Papa was named the organization's East Regional Coach of the Year after leading The Rock to its first PSAC indoor team title this month.Hansen was named the organization's East Regional Women's Field Athlete of the Year after winning the conference pole vault title and being seeded second at the national indoor meet.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University junior wingman Erroll Robinson was named second-team All-PSAC West in basketball.Robinson led The Rock with 11.4 points per game, shot 72.2 percent at the foul line and grabbed 3.8 rebounds per game.

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Penguins will open the 2008-09 season with two games in Stockholm, Sweden, against the Ottawa Senators after playing an exhibition against a Finnish team.The Penguins will play Jokerit of Finland's top professional league, SM-Liiga, on Oct. 2 at Hartwall Arena in Helsinki, Finland.The Penguins will then open the season against the Senators with games Oct. 4 and 5.Tickets for the Finland game will go on sale April 1. Ticket information about the games in Sweden is not immediately available.The NHL will also host regular season games in Prague, Czech Republic, on Oct. 4 and 5 between the New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning.

CONCORD, N.C. — Roush Fenway Racing won't appeal the penalties imposed by NASCAR against Carl Edwards after his winning No. 99 car failed post-race inspection at Las Vegas.Edwards was docked 100 points and stripped of the 10 bonus points he earned for the March 2 victory when NASCAR discovered the cover was off the oil tank in his Ford.
