McKissick

William A. McKissick, 90, of South Fourth Avenue, Clarion, died Tuesday at the Golden Living in Clarion.

Born in Butler, April 7, 1920, he was the son of Roy McKissick and Martha Reynolds McKissick, who both preceded him in death.

He was a 1938 graduate of Butler High School and served in World War II as a master sergeant in the Army Air Corps and in the Korean War.

Mr. McKissick was married to Doris Snyder on Nov. 15, 1943, in Nashville, Tenn., and she survives.

He retired from State Farm Insurance in 1985 after 30 years.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clarion since 1960. Active in the church, he was a Sunday school teacher, Stephen minister, United Methodist Men's president and the Western Pennsylvania Conference Executive Board and as a Western Pennsylvania Conference delegate to the annual conference.

He was a member of the Clarion Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow; the Clarion Masonic Lodge 277 F&AM; the Coudersport Consistory; and the Clarion American Legion.

He was a volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America, the American Cancer Society, the Red Cross, the Heart Association, Clarion Hospital and the Literacy Council.

He was a member for 18 years of the Clarion School Board, serving as president. He was honored in 1997 as the Clarion Man of the Year.

In addition to his wife, Doris of Clarion, survivors are a son, Ronald and his wife, Barbara McKissick of Butler; a daughter, Mary Brooks of Clarion; four grandchildren, Douglas and his wife, Lori McKissick of Imperial, Aaron and his wife, Kelli McKissick of Pittsburgh and Ian and Taylor McKissick of Butler; three great-grandchildren, Paige, Carter and Collin McKissick of Pittsburgh; and a sister, Helen Turner of Butler.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Roy and Richard.

<B>MCKISSICK</B> — Visitation for William A. McKissick, who died Tuesday, June 29, 2010, will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the <B>Goble Funeral Home & Crematory </B>in Clarion. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday from the First United Methodist Church in Clarion with Rev. Dr. Deryl K. Larsen officiating.
