Family shares love of reading with free library

Three cheers for the Knobeloch family of Penn Township and their new free library.

It is a pleasure to learn of the creativity that people have within themselves and the lessons that parents manage to provide to their children at the most unusual times.

Marlene Knobeloch and her son, Parker, were featured in the Eagle on Wednesday morning for the grand opening of their new neighborhood free mini library, using an old Butler Eagle newspaper vending machine as a receptacle.

Truly a project from the heart — it also serves as a wonderful opportunity to share with neighbors the gift of reading and the concept of giving.

Parker was able to help prepare the tiny book repository by cleaning, sanding and painting it and he also cleaned and sanitized the individual books as well.

The Knobeloch family effort is registered with an organization called littlefreelibrary.com. It would be very easy for others to replicate and make summer reading easier for neighborhood parents and children.

This is a great life lesson for Parker and a wonderful memory for his mother to hold of something they created together for the greater good of Penn Township.

We are proud of the kindness and the community spirit displayed by the Knobeloch family.
