CHERRY TWP— The Moniteau Junior/Senior High School library is in a pilot program involving reproductions of famous art. The National Endowment for the Humanities chose the school as one of 1,500 to participate in Picturing America. The program gives the school 20 double-sided posters of American painters, sculptors, photographers and architects. The school also gets a resource book, lesson plans, and materials.

Librarian Susan Grossman said she expects history and other classes to use the prints, which span several centuries.

The prints include "Washington Crossing the Delaware," Norman Rockwell's "Freedom of Speech," and the Native American work "Sans Arc Lakota."

An advanced history teacher told Grossman the class has used smaller versions of the prints in assignments before, and is glad to have these 24-inch by 36-inch posters to use.

"It came with a wonderful teacher guide," Grossman said.

She said the prints are intended for classroom use, so she plans to hang the posters in a way that they can quickly come off the wall and go into classrooms.

After the school's renovations, Grossman said the art is especially appreciated.

"We've got blank walls here," she said. "This is nice artwork to put on them."
