Muddy 5K race makes return

The Bantam Jeep Heritage Festival is known for its fun, muddy activities which is why the Bantam Jeep Muddy 5K is back on at 8 a.m. Sunday.

The course will challenge runners with obstacles including the Jeep Playground, navigating a maze, jumping through hoops, climbing over a wall and under Jeeps.

The race is sponsored by the Pittsburgh Marine Recruiting Station and managed by the Butler Outdoor Club. Race proceeds benefit the club.

“The Bantam Jeep Muddy 5K race is a great excuse at any age to play in the mud. It’s fun to see family and friends participate in the run together and help each other through the obstacles,” said Joyce Appel, Bantam Jeep Muddy 5K manager. “When we first introduced the race in 2013, we received a great deal of positive feedback. We hope to see groups, families and friends using this as a team building/bonding opportunity.”

Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age class, plus the top male and female overall finishers. The on-site registration fee is $50 and includes entrance to the festival, a limited number of shirts are available for those who register first.

Registration will be held from 7 to 7:45 a.m. Sunday. Those accompanying racers must pay festival admission of $10. Race participants should enter Cooper’s Lake Campground at the main festival entrance and go to the registration tent.
