PITTSBURGH — Authorities say fire crews rescued a dog that had been trapped for a couple of days in the wreckage of a four-alarm fire in Pittsburgh.

The blaze reported at 12:15 a.m. Saturday in the Homewood section of the city damaged four buildings, including a church, causing damage estimated at about $280,000.

The Animal Rescue League said the dog, Sophie, was found Monday morning covered in soot and ashes in the basement of one of the homes that caught fire.

The white boxer, a female about five years old, is being treated with oxygen for smoke inhalation.

League officer Erica Daniels said she will be reunited with her family when she's well enough to go home.

WHITE HAVEN — Authorities say a teenager was rescued by emergency workers after getting stuck up to his waist in mud at a state park over the weekend.Officials said the youth got stuck, then sank deeper as he struggled, in Nescopeck State Park in Luzerne County on Sunday afternoon while walking on land that was once a lake but has since drained.Dennison Township Fire Chief Jay Marotta said firefighters and ambulance personnel used a ladder and boards on the surface to stabilize themselves, then pulled the teenager out by hand.
