Earl Neely Jr.

Neely

Earl F. “Pete” Neely Jr., 93, of Allison Park, formerly of Evans City and Cranberry Township, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, May 24, 2023, at UPMC Passavant Hospital in McCandless Township.

Born in Franklin Park on Aug. 27, 1929, he was the son of the late Earl F. Neely Sr. and Rachel Crispens Neely.

Pete worked for the Nagel Company for years before starting his own company, Earl Neely Masonry. His company did blockwork and brickwork on many homes and buildings in the North Hills and surrounding areas.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953, attaining the rank of corporal. His service took him to Korea for one year during the war.

He was a lifelong member of Franklin Park Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and “the Candy Man.” He was an avid deer and bear hunter, who hunted in the woods of Cameron County near Emporium, Pa.

Pete had a witty sense of humor that popped out often and when least expected. He loved the Pittsburgh sports teams: the Pirates, Steelers and Penguins. He was at the Steelers game when Franco Harris made the immaculate reception. Pete loved to play softball and was quite good at the game.

Surviving are his daughter, Joyce Afflerbach (Joe) of Allison Park; his son, Ken Neely (Nancy) of Boise, Idaho; his grandchildren, Ian Neely (Rie), the late William Neely, Rachel Neely, Lacey Bartholomew (Tim), Dustin Klein, Joe Afflerbach and Ben Neely; two great- granddaughters, Autumn Sandra Wray Neely and Rosemary Klein Bartholomew; a sister, Janet Tehois of Pittsburgh; two brothers, William Neely of Franklin Park and Vaughn Neely (Kathy) of Simpsonville, S.C.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary L. Cress Neely, whom he married on May 9, 1953, and who died on June 27, 2017; and by a sister, Geraldine Crehan.
