Farms sought for farm tour to feature
ZELIENOPLE — The Butler County Farm Tour is returning this year as an expanded two-day event, and organizers are looking for more farms to participate.
Jack Cohen, president of the Butler County Tourism and Convention Bureau, said Monday afternoon that his agency is still searching for more farms to participate.
Cohen said the tourism agency hopes to attract at least 20 farms for the tour, which will run Oct. 3-4.
The farm tour is self-guided while participants will be able to sample food, view demonstrations and take tours of various facilities.
Several alpaca farms will participate to educate the public about their animals, Cohen said, while the North Country Harvest Co. will also welcome visitors.
The idea behind reviving the farm tour is to highlight the agro-tourism industry, but also while bringing attention to the county’s largest industry, Cohen said.
“The farm tour is important because it gives us an opportunity to showcase our top two industries, tourism and agriculture,” he said. “We can attract more attendees by having the event at many locations over two days.”
However, the tourism bureau is still looking for farms to participate. There are no costs for farms to that.
