Ralph Edwin Amy
Ralph Edwin “Bud” Amy, 86, of Buffalo Township passed away peacefully Friday at his home.
Ralph was born Feb. 3, 1931, in Butler. He was the son of the late Marie Kirkpatrick and Edwin M. Amy.
Ralph had worked as a jeweler for many years at his family business, Kirkpatrick's Jewelry Store in Butler.
After the closing of the store, he enrolled at Grove City College. Ralph graduated from Grove City in 1962 with a bachelor's degree in business education.
He taught business and accounting at Freeport Area High School for 31 years, retiring in 1992. While at Freeport, he was an assistant basketball coach for many years and started and coached the first Freeport golf team in 1964.
Ralph was a member of the F&AM, Butler Lodge 272 and the Valley of New Castle, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite. He was a life member of PSEA and a board member of the Alle-Kiski PASR. Ralph was also a longtime member of the Summit Township Sportsmans Club. Ralph enjoyed traveling with his wife, spending time with his family, golfing, watching the Steelers and Penguins and going out to dinner.
Ralph is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Barbara J. Blair Amy; his son Richard and Barbara Amy of Natrona Heights; his daughter-in-law, Renee Amy of Roanoke, Va.; two stepdaughters, Amy and Fred Solman of Zelienople, Renee and Nathalie Farster-Degenhardt of Wayland, Mass.; and his stepson, Brandon and Angela Farster of Gibsonia; nine grandchildren, Tim and Trisha Amy, Melissa and Randy Thompson, Courtney and Russell Lane, Braden Solman, Josie, Molly and Leah Farster, Zaila and Maceo Farster-Degenhardt; four great-grandchildren, Chloe and Leah Lane and Madison and Maeghan Troutman; and his sister, Patricia Davidson of Carlsbad, Calif.
He is also survived by his loving dogs, Nikki and Maggie Mae. Ralph was preceded in death by his son, David Amy, who died in 2011.
AMY — Family and friends of Ralph Edwin “Bud” Amy, who died Friday, Nov. 17, 2017, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Redmond Funeral Home, 524 High St., Freeport. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Father John Getsy, OFM Cap, officiating.
