Seneca Valley graduate and Harmony native Drew Snyder tallied two individual victories for the Grove City men's swimming team in a 147-113 win over Hiram College on Saturday.

Snyder, a sophomore, won the 100 freestyle (49.74 seconds) and the 200 free (1:51.7).

Brittany Beatty tallied 19 points in the Butler County Community College women's basketball team's 89-38 win over CCAC-Boyce on Saturday.Knoch graduate Liz Burgard (14 points) and Butler products Samantha Karns (14) and Michele Ritchey (12) also played well for the Pioneers (8-1, 1-0).

NEW YORK — Ohio State quarterback Troy Smith was a runaway winner Saturday night, taking home the Heisman Trophy as the best player in college football.He received 801 first-place votes, the second most ever, and 1,662 points more than second-place finisher Darren McFadden of Arkansas, making it the second-most lopsided Heisman vote. Only O.J. Simpson's 1,750-point victory in 1968 was more onesided.The 22-year-old Smith is the sixth player from Ohio State to win the Heisman and first since tailback Eddie George in 1995. And it's the school's seventh Heisman — Archie Griffin won two in 1974-75 — tying Notre Dame and Southern California for the most.

CHICAGO — The Chicago Blackhawks signed veteran forward Peter Bondra to a one-year contract.The 38-year-old Bondra is a five-time NHL All-Star who has 498 career goals in 1,044 games with Washington, Ottawa and Atlanta.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Nextel Cup champion Jimmie Johnson broke his left wrist when he fell off a golf cart during a celebrity tournament, his team said Sunday.The injury occurred Friday at a tournament in Lecanto, Fla., and will prevent him from driving for at least four weeks.
