Flower and Food Fest helps gardeners prep for season
The Flower and Food Fest on Saturday, May 20, has everything gardeners need to prepare for this year’s growing season.
Hosted by the Penn State Extension Master Gardeners Butler County and Butler County Parks and Recreation, this free event will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday near the Odd Fellows Shelter in Alameda Park.
The Master Gardener Plant Sale will feature a wide variety of native plants, perennials, herbs and vegetable plants. The sale will include opportunities to purchase gardening-themed apparel, gloves and more.
Master Gardeners will help visitors select the best plants for their gardens and landscapes. They also will answer questions about best gardening practices and hot topics such as the spotted lanternfly infestation.
Vendors will offer perennial and annual flowers, vegetables, herbs, shrubs and even small trees, to transform your outdoor growing space into a beautiful habitat for people and pollinators.
Take a break from plant shopping to visit the food vendors offering an array of culinary choices, from light snacks and sweets to full meals.
Other featured vendors will share handcrafted items for indoor and outdoor spaces.
Butler County’s Farmers’ Markets representatives will preview the summer season with representatives selling flowers, plants, and pet and agricultural products. Vendors accept cash and electronic payments. To make shopping easier, Butler County 4-H members will help to transport wares to the plant pickup area.
Children can get an up-close and personal encounter with goats and rabbits at the petting zoo. Families also are invited to visit the children’s area.
The festival sponsors are All About Reclaimed, Armstrong, Butler Eagle, Butler Radio Network and Conlon Tarker.
