Knoch grad Bzorek honored by AP
EDINBORO - Make it three years in a row that the Edinboro University football team can claim at least one player on The Associated Press Little All-America Team. Knoch graduate Greg Bzorek is the latest player to accomplish the fete, earning a spot on the third team.
Bzorek, a 6-foot-6, 318-pound junior who started all 12 games at right tackle, was a major reason the Fighting Scots finished with a 9-3 record for the second straight year, tying the school record for wins.
Edinboro also finished as co-champions in the PSAC West for the second consecutive season, and was again selected for the NCAA Division II playoffs, where the Fighting Scots defeated Bentley, 47-44, in the first round of the Northeast Regional, before suffering a last-second 36-32 loss at East Stroudsburg in the semifinals.
"I think it's a very deserving honor for Greg," head coach Lou Tepper said. "Anyone who studies us on film knows he's been a dominant blocker, both in the run game and pass blocking. He was a big reason why we only gave up nine sacks. I'm delighted that he would get this honor."
Bzorek is a three-year starter who has started 34 of 35 career games. He helped pave the way for record-setting tailback Andre Burke, who set a season-record for rushing yards with 1,713 yards. In all, Edinboro averaged 201.4 yards per game and allowed a PSAC-low 9 sacks.
