Betty Anna Black of Slippery Rock, passed away in Butler County on Friday, May 12, 2023. She was 84.

Betty was born on June 4, 1938, in Portersville, to John Clayton Lawrence and Dorothy Lucille Kennedy Lawrence.

She graduated from Slippery Rock High School in 1956.

Betty married John Richard Black on April 11, 1975, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 14, 2008.

She retired in 2008 as secretary in the Butler County District Court.

She was a member of the Center Presbyterian Church in Slippery Rock.

Betty enjoyed decorating her home, particularly during the holidays. She enjoyed working in her yard, gardening, watching the QVC Channel, attending craft shows, and, most of all, spending time with her daughters.

Surviving are two daughters, Barbara J. (Wetzel) Murphy of Harmony and Kimberly J. (Chris) Wolford of Slippery Rock; her stepson, Richard K. (Ginger) Black of Fairhope Ala.; her two stepdaughters, Susan Ezatoff of Prospect and Kathy (Rich) Dilts of Harmony; her sister, Janice (David) Kordish of New Castle; six stepgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard Black; her first husband, Donald E. Carothers; her son, Donny Carothers, who passed away in 1977; two brothers, Wayne and Laverne Lawrence; and her stepgrandson, Derek Ezatoff.

BLACK — Friends of Betty Anna Black, who died Friday, May 12, 2023, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Joel Dieterich presiding.

Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery in Prospect.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, P.O. Box 5014 Hagerstown, MD 21741.
