WPIAL brackets released

The Mars boys and girls lacrosse teams have both earned the No. 1 seed in the WPIAL Class 2A playoffs.

The Planet boys will be in action at home Wednesday at a time to be determined against the winner of Monday's first-round game between Indiana and Moon.

Mars' girls will play at home Thursday at a time to be determined against the winner of Tuesday's meeting between Franklin Regional and South Fayette.

Class 3A Boys — No. 7 Seneca Valley will host No. 10 Hempfield at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

No. 11 Butler will travel to No. 6 Upper St. Clair for a game at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Girls — No. 11 Seneca Valley will play at 7 p.m. Monday at No. 6 Canon-McMillan.

The WPIAL also released brackets for the baseball, softball and boys volleyball playoffs. The schedule for local teams follows:

Baseball

Class 6A — No. 4 Seneca Valley and No. 6 Butler will both play in quarterfinal action May 22 at sites and times to be determined.

The Raiders will take on No. 5 Mt. Lebanon while Butler will face No. 3 Canon-McMillan.

Class 5A — No. 9 Mars will meet No. 8 Fox Chapel at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Plum High School.

Class 4A — No. 6 North Catholic will face No. 11 Elizabeth Forward at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Plum High School.

Class 3A — No. 8 Freeport and No. 9 South Allegheny will clash at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Plum High School.

Softball

Class 6A — No. 1 Seneca Valley received a bye into the semifinals and will play May 24 at a time and site to be determined against the winner of Wednesday’s quarterfinal between North Allegheny and Pine-Richland.

Class 4A — No. 6 Knoch will face No. 11 Uniontown at 4 p.m. Monday at West Mifflin High School.

Boys Volleyball

Class 3A — No. 6 Butler will host No. 11 Central Catholic at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

No. 7 Seneca Valley will host No. 10 Moon at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Class 2A — No. 2 Mars received a bye into the quarterfinals. The Planets will next be in action at home Thursday at 7 p.m. against the winner of Tuesday’s clash between Montour and Gateway.

No. 4 North Catholic will host No. 13 Trinity at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
