Pa. pizza driver tackles 2 carjacking suspects

PITTSBURGH — Two 15-year-olds face robbery charges after a pizza delivery driver tackled them as they ran from Pittsburgh police — who said they pursued the youths while they drove the same vehicle they had carjacked from the deliveryman the night before.

Inomjon Madumarov tackled the two suspects, Akeyba Sanchez and Carl English, after spotting them in his stolen car Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Madumarov, a 29-year-old native of Uzbekistan, had been carjacked the night before and was driving around looking for his stolen car when he spotted it — and the teen suspects inside — being chased by city detectives who recognized the stolen vehicle.

Madumarov also gave chase before the teens crashed his stolen vehicle into the one he was driving. When the teens ran from the crash, Madumarov tackled both suspects, police said.

Madumarov works at Riviera Pizza & Pasta, where owner Azam Fayz translated as his driver explained what happened.

“He said he saw that the car was driving too fast, and he was afraid it would hit some kids and those on the street,” Fayz relayed.

Madumarov lost his passport and other documents when his car was stolen, and lamented the crime.

Young people should be happy to live “in a big and peaceful country like America,” Fayz translated, and should “go to school and work hard” instead of causing trouble on the streets.
