Ellen Elizabeth Barkley
Ellen Elizabeth Barkley, 89, of Portersville passed away Thursday at her home.
She was born Nov. 28, 1926, in Portersville to Albert Lawrence Moore and Anna Mary Wegley Moore.
She married Roy Richard Barkley on Jan. 15, 1946. He preceded her in death on May 26, 1996.
Ellen was a homemaker and an active member of the Presbyterian Church of Portersville, where she had taught Sunday school and had been a Sunday school superintendent. She has been director of the Vacation Bible School and had served many years in various positions with the Bible school program and was an active member and teacher of the ladies Bible study group at the church. She and her husband were both involved with Child Evangelism at one time in Lawrence County. She was a member of the Keenagers in Portersville and enjoyed playing cards, sewing and working with crafts.
Survivors include her daughter, Lynn A. Meadows and her husband, James, of Tarentum; three sons, Chris A. Barkley of Harmony, Clay A. Barkley and his wife, Barbara, of Bellefonte, Pa., and Mark E. Barkley and his wife, Lisa, of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; six grandchildren, Echo, Garrett, Carmen, Chelsea and Amanda Barkley and Rae Lee Boag; and three great-grandchildren, Riley, Perry and Penelope.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Perry Richard Barkley; four brothers, Donald, Lawrence, Jesse and Laverne; and one sister, Maudress Lawrence.
BARKLEY — The family of Ellen Elizabeth Barkley, who died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016, will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Presbyterian Church of Portersville, 1297 Perry Highway, Portersville, with the Rev. Dana Opp presiding. Interment will be in Greenlawn Burial Estates.
