Hames fans 20 in 1-0 SV softball win

Lexie Hames struck out a career-high 20 batters Tuesday as Seneca Valley scored a 1-0 section softball win over rival North Allegheny.

Kara Pasquale had the RBI single for the Raiders. Hames, Neve Miller, Bella Gross and Rylee Kratochvil hit safely for SV as well.

Seneca Valley won its ninth straight game to improve to 15-1, 14-1 on the season. The Raiders host Shaler on Wednesday.

Mars 13, Fox Chapel 2 — Mars improved to 7-9, 4-6 with a triumph over Fox Chapel (6-11). The Planets are a game short of qualifying for the WPIAL playoffs.

Baseball

Dylan Gordon allowed two hits over five innings on Monday to lead Slippery Rock to a 13-3 victory over Sharon.

The Rockets banged out 11 hits. Gordon had a pair of singles and an RBI, Sal Mineo a triple, single and four RBI. Brett Galcik contributed a double, single and RBI.

Slippery Rock scored six times in the first inning and added five runs in the third in breaking the game open early.

Hampton 10, Knoch 4 — The Knights were limited to three hits, with Brady Wozniak getting all three. Wozniak had three singles and four RBI. Mason Phillips scored a pair of runs.

Knoch slipped to 3-14, 20-8 with the loss. Hampton improved to 8-8 overall, 6-4 in section play.

Girls Lacrosse

Mars completed its section season with a 20-1 victory over Trinity. The Planets followed that win up with a 17-6 triumph over Seneca Valley on Tuesday.

Track and Field

Micah Rupp won the 200 meters, long jump and triple jump while Levi Hawk won both hurdle events for Karns City in a 111-36 win over Moniteau.

The Gremlins won all but two events in the meet.

The Gremlins won the girls meet as well, 78-72.

Slippery Rock’s boys (56-1) dropped their first dual meet of the season as Grove City came away with an 80-70 win. The Rocket girls slipped to 4-2 with an 89-61 loss to the Eagles.

Tyler Arblaster set a school record in the 200 meters and Levi Prementine won four events for Slippery Rock’s boys.

Boys Volleyball

Coleton Welter had 11 klills and Alex Moncello tallied 25 assists as Butler defeated Fox Chapel, 3-0. Match scores were 25-15, 25-14, 25-12.

Adam Kaufman had 16 digs and Nate Grossman three blocks for the Golden Tornado (10-5, 7-4), who play at Seneca Valley on Thursday.

Mars, 3, Derry Area 2 — Mars came from behind to defeat Derry Area. The Planets won the first set, 25-22, b before dropping decisions of 27-25 and 25-16. Mars won the final two sets, 25-21 and 15-11.
