Thief suspect ID'd
JEFFERSON TWP — With a criminal record as long as hers, Ricki Lee Double finds it hard to remain a face in the crowd to law enforcement authorities.
After all, when you have two dozen felony convictions and you’re awaiting trial in six other felony cases, you rack up a lot of mug shots along the way and police get to know you.
So it didn’t take long for state police to recognize Double on surveillance video as the woman suspected of stealing money this week from two elderly men while posing as an employee at an assisted living facility in Jefferson Township.
Armed with an arrest warrant that District Judge Sue Haggerty signed Tuesday, troopers are on the hunt for the 31-year-old Double, who has no known address.
She is charged with two felony counts of trespass and two misdemeanor counts each of theft and receiving stolen property.
Police suspect Double on Sunday and Monday struck at the Concordia Lutheran Ministries assisted living facility on Marwood Road.
She is accused of entering its Haven 1 building through a resident’s rear patio door about 4:15 p.m. Sunday. She made her way into the rooms of several other residents under the ruse she worked there, charging documents said.
She eventually got inside an 89-year-old man’s room and took about $120 from his wallet.
The defendant returned to the facility about 12:30 p.m. Monday and used the same tactics to get into a 94-year-old man’s room at the Haven 2 building, police said. She stole about $150 from his wallet.
The patrol trooper who was assigned the case wasted little time getting his hands on Concordia’s surveillance video for the days of the thefts. Once the officer shared the video with his colleagues, documents said, the case was solved.
“Numerous members of Troop D Butler Station viewed the pictures and identified the female as Ricki Double,” the police affidavit said. “Double has had numerous arrests and incidents involving (state police) Butler members.”
Police on Tuesday got corroboration from a source that knows the defendant even better than they do.
Double’s mother informed investigators she had seen Concordia’s video surveillance that police had released to media outlets.
“(The mother) related that she was certain that her daughter was the one in the pictures,” documents said.
At the time of her latest alleged crimes, court records showed, Double was free on $5,000 bail she posted July 6 in connection with her arrest in a distraction burglary in Butler.
In that case, city police said, she targeted a 67-year-old man at his Second Street home June 22. She showed up there and asked the man for bus fare. When he left to get it, police said, she walked into the house and stole $25.
She pulled a similar con April 20 at a home in the 200 block of East Penn Street in Butler, asking the 74-year-old resident if she could borrow hand tools and a glass of water.
While the homeowner was getting the items, the suspect stepped from the doorway into the home unnoticed and stole money from the victim’s purse.
She is awaiting trial in those cases as well as six others, almost all in which she allegedly preyed on elderly victims.
Among those other cases, she is accused of scamming a 79-year-old Butler man out $5,770 last year and conning an 84-year-old Butler Township woman out of $2,400, in separate credit card ruses.
Court documents in at least one of those cases indicated Double was seeking money “to support her drug habit.”
Her pages-long criminal record, meanwhile, shows 24 felony convictions, mostly for forgery.
