Loretta S. Johns

Loretta S. Johns, 86, of Carmel, Ind., formerly of Valencia, passed away Wednesday.

She was born to Katherine Sandrock on May 30, 1930, and was raised by her grandparents, John and Ida Sandrock.

Loretta graduated from Shaler High School in Glenshaw in 1946. Following high school, she worked for Mellon Bank before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force where she met her husband, Keith B. Johns, of Hazard, Neb. They were married Sept. 10, 1954.

Loretta was an active member in the communities in which she lived, serving as a school volunteer, Sunday school teacher and Cub Scout den mother, and she dedicated thousands of hours to the American Field Service over almost 40 years.

She was a woman of strong faith and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bakerstown for more than 60 years. She was active in the Orchard Park Presbyterian Church in Carmel, for the past 16 years, after she moved to Carmel in 2000 with her son and daughter-in-law.

Loretta is survived by her three children, Karen (Glenn) Ezell of Plano, Texas, Sharon Johns (Marc Poulin) of Loveland, Colo., and Keith (Ellen) Johns II of Carmel; and five grandchildren, Ashley Ezell, Elliot Johns, Elise Johns, Elizabeth Johns and Ethan Johns.

She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives, friends and former AFS students whose lives she touched.

She was proceeded in her death by her husband who died in 1985; her mother who died in 1933 when Loretta was 3 years old; her grandparents; and several aunts and uncles.

JOHNS — Loretta S. Johns, who died Wednesday, April 12, 2017, will be laid to rest at the Mount Royal Cemetery in Glenshaw, where the family will conduct a committal service at 3 p.m. Monday in the chapel at the cemetery.The family wishes to thank the staff at Brookdale Memory Care who cared so well for Loretta during the past year.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Bakerstown, to Orchard Park Presbyterian Church of Carmel, to the Humane Society, or to the charity of your choice.Arrangements were entrusted to the FLANNER AND BUCHANAN, Carmel, Ind.Online condolences may be shared by visiting www.flannerbuchanan.com.
